Filling Instructions: Pump-Fillers |
Pump-fillers require multiple strokes to fill. Most use reciprocating plungers, but the classification comprises many different mechanisms. Most pump-fillers work on the same principle as bulb-fillers. Many have transparent or partially transparent barrels which show the ink level within. Dunn was one of the first companies to sell a pump-filling fountain pen; the system was also used by Sager, OMAS, and Osmia, among others. Waterman's Ink-Vue was a pump-filler that used a jointed lever acting on a small sac instead of a reciprocating plunger, while Wahl-Eversharp and Conklin both sold similar pump-fillers that twisted the small sac instead. The Parker Vacumatic was a pump-filler, as was the 51 for the first several years of production; click herefor filling instructions specifically for Parker Vacumatics and Vac-filling 51s. |
