14006: Hide penner: portable brass writing compendium, 11.2 cm tall, Sheffield manufacture, marked "W/HIDE" on the bottom of the inkwell base; reversible top with quill knife (blade tip chipped), quills would have been carried in the now-lost outer leather case. This design was made from the 18th century up into the beginning of the 19th, making individual specimens difficult to date; this example is solidly made and unusually free of dents.

Original color has faded as is common with early green celluloids, material is sound. 15370: John Holland eyedropper-filler: black chased hard rubber taper-cap, 14.8 cm long, crisp chasing and imprints, hard rubber glossy and unfaded, appears never to have been filled, though there is a stress crack in the cap (from being squeezed, most likely, since it is in the middle and not at the mouth). Came to us without a nib, we have added a period-correct #4 Holland nib. Nib tipping is scant, worn away on one side, nib is still entirely usable though somewhat toothy with pressure.

Mordan is best known for precious metal pencils and dip pens, but Mordan fountain pens are rare -- this is only the third that we have handled.
